"Shakespeare In His Own Time"
Thursday, October 25, 4:00pm-5:30pm, University of
Queensland
A professional development event for Secondary English and Drama
Teachers
The event, taking place at UQ's St Lucia campus is intended for
secondary teachers of English and Drama and aims to bring together
educators in SE Queensland with a particular interest in
Shakespeare, and to share knowledge about and approaches to
teaching Shakespeare through historical contexts.
The event will consist of two short papers given by Shakespeare
specialists Professor Tom Bishop (University of Auckland) and Dr
Ross Knecht (UQ Node, Centre for the History of Emotions) followed
by a discussion session and drinks. The entire event will be
videotaped for future use in a series of podcasts for continuing
professional development which will be available through the School
of English, Media Studies and Art History.
This is a pilot exercise and we're looking for secondary
teachers of English and Drama to come along, share ideas about the
topic and offer some feedback on the event as a possible model for
improving professional engagement between secondary and tertiary
level teachers of English and Literature.
Numbers will be limited to ensure the event remains
informal and interactive so please RSVP via email to Penny Boys by
Friday, October 19: p.boys@uq.edu.au
