Resurrexit presents two major works written for the Easter celebrations in eighteenth-century Saxony: the joyous Easter Oratorio by Johann Sebastian Bach and the exuberant Missa Paschalis by Bach's counterpart in Dresden, Jan Dismas Zelenka. Both works employ festive orchestration including trumpets, timpani, solo winds, strings and organ, all performed with the clarity of period instruments.
You are also invited to a pre-concert talk, led by Prof. Jane Davidson, with Assoc. Prof. Jan Stockigt and Emeritus Prof. Robert Gribben in the Newman College Oratory at 1.45pm.
