Through a repertory of patristic and medieval texts, this presentation will document the association of the figure of Christ with, in the first place, the monastic sin of sloth (acedia) and thereupon its humoral or psychological corollary, melancholy. It will reflect then on the significance in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries of accounting for the passions with a more profound psychological reading of the Passion.
