Topics will include: rhetoric as a mode of discipline and self-fashioning; the institutional formation of artistic and rhetorical practices; and the emergence of new affective genres and technologies.
The event brings together presenters from a range of fields, including literary criticism; drama and performace studies; intellectual history; art history; musicology; and cultural and political history.
The seminar will feature the first modern performance of Johann Christoph Pepusch's Venus and Adonis, a 1715 masque with a libretto by Colley Cibber on Tuesday 26 November (and Saturday 23 November) at the UQ Art Museum.
