Professor Iain McCalman is a member of CHE's Advisory board. He was born in Nyasaland, schooled in Zimbabwe and completed his higher education in Australia. A Fellow of three Learned Academies and former President of the Australian Academy of the Humanities, he is a Co-Director of the Sydney Environment Institute. His recent book, The Reef: A Passionate History: The Great Barrier Reef from Captain Cook to Climate Change (Scientific American) was published in Australia, the USA and UK in 2014. He is an Officer of the Order of Australia for services to history and the humanities.
