Performance Program

This program deals with what we can tell about how emotions were understood, expressed, displayed, transferred, and constructed through performing and visual arts--music, opera, drama and art.

Emotions power performance. In Europe, 1100-1800, emotions were performed and expressed through art, music and theatre. The Performance program facilitates understanding of historic emotions through the visual arts and connects them with a modern audience.

A key aspect of this program is service to the greater arts community. Research is conducted and disseminated in partnership with organisations such as the West Australian Opera, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Bell Shakespeare Company, the ABC, and the National Gallery of Victoria.

The Centre provides research based development opportunities for students and professionals alike, enabling historically informed reflective practices in modern performance. Furthermore, research and performance outputs are made available to arts consumers, including publications, performance talks, and other related events and information.
