Dido and Aeneas is perhaps the most famous English opera, telling the tale of Queen Dido’s fateful destiny as love is swept aside by cruel loss.
Repeating the successful arts partnership enjoyed in 2013 between the Australian Research Council’s Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions and Methodist Ladies’ College in association with Christ Church Grammar School, this project for Autumn 2014 offers educational opportunity and artistic insight. Led by international scholar/artists, the opera workshop production draws on historical performance practices and enables students to explore emotional meaning in artistic context. The work investigates the musical, dance and dramatic standards required of performers in the seventeenth century. The production is based around the MLC/CCGS Combined Choir with soloists from both schools and instrumentalists and dancers from MLC.
