Recent articles explore the emotional economy of pilgrimage; the historiography of history of emotions research; apocalyptic time, emotion and disaster; anger and dishonor in sixteenth-century broadsheets; ridicule and cruelty in seventeenth-century witchcraft imagery; the late medieval Nuremberg Carnival; images of the witch of Endor in medieval and early modern Europe; emotions and the visual, 1300–1600. His forthcoming major projects include a monograph on an Austrian national shrine, The Emotional Economy of Mariazell: Liberation, Belonging, Conquest, and contributions to a collaborative project on Albrecht Dürer and material culture.
